What Is Airbnb's Coronavirus Change or Cancellation Policy?

All reservations made on or before the pandemic on March 14, 2022, may get a full refund or a travel credit. The host cancellation policy applies when you book after March 14 but before May 31, 2022. But if you get sick with Covid or traveling isn't allowed, you'll be covered under Extenuating Circumstances Policy. Host's cancellation policy applies on all bookings made after May 31.

Guests that booked an Airbnb stay on or before the pandemic (March 14, 2020), and need to cancel should log in to their account and select My travel plans have changed due to Covid. The options available include a refund according to the host policy, travel credit and asking the host for a full refund.

It's best to fully understand the cancellation policy of each listing to avoid problems with refunds. If you have Covid-19 and need to cancel the reservation, proper documentation will need to be submitted for review. Airbnb will decide whether you should get a full refund.

Bookings Made After March 14th, 2020 and Before May 31st, 2022

If you reserved a property between the dates mentioned above, the host cancellation policy applies. Cancellation policies can be flexible or strict, depending on the hosts. Some hosts allow a full refund when canceled 24 hours before check-in while others also don't offer refunds if you cancel.

For guests diagnosed with Covid-19 or not allowed to travel and will need to cancel will be covered under Extenuating Circumstances Policy. Depending on your situation, you may get a travel credit, cash refund or other considerations. If you don't qualify for a full refund, consider messaging your host and asking if they are willing to give you a refund.

Bookings Made On or Before May 31st 2022

The Extenuating Circumstances Policy doesn't cover cancellations due to Covid when booked on or before May 31, 2022. Guests will have to check the host's cancellation policy to determine if they can get a full or partial refund.
