Guests that booked an Airbnb stay on or before the pandemic (March 14, 2020), and need to cancel should log in to their account and select My travel plans have changed due to Covid. The options available include a refund according to the host policy, travel credit and asking the host for a full refund.
It's best to fully understand the cancellation policy of each listing to avoid problems with refunds. If you have Covid-19 and need to cancel the reservation, proper documentation will need to be submitted for review. Airbnb will decide whether you should get a full refund.
If you reserved a property between the dates mentioned above, the host cancellation policy applies. Cancellation policies can be flexible or strict, depending on the hosts. Some hosts allow a full refund when canceled 24 hours before check-in while others also don't offer refunds if you cancel.
For guests diagnosed with Covid-19 or not allowed to travel and will need to cancel will be covered under Extenuating Circumstances Policy. Depending on your situation, you may get a travel credit, cash refund or other considerations. If you don't qualify for a full refund, consider messaging your host and asking if they are willing to give you a refund.
The Extenuating Circumstances Policy doesn't cover cancellations due to Covid when booked on or before May 31, 2022. Guests will have to check the host's cancellation policy to determine if they can get a full or partial refund.

After thousands of AirBnB customers came to GetHuman in search of an answer to this problem (and many others), we decided it was time to publish instructions. So we put together What Is Airbnb's Coronavirus Change or Cancellation Policy? to try to help. It takes time to get through these steps according to other users, including time spent working through each step and contacting AirBnB if necessary. Best of luck and please let us know if you successfully resolve your issue with guidance from this page.
GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like AirBnB in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What Is Airbnb's Coronavirus Change or Cancellation Policy? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
