How do I get a refund for not getting on an overbooked American Airlines flight?
A simple 3 step guide for solving this common American Airlines problem quickly and effectively by GetHuman
Before you get started, be sure you have: Email address on the account, Account PIN/Password, Booking reference, Date of booking
If you had a booking on a flight and you were bumped off because it was overbooked, you are due for compensation. If you are still in the airport, go to the American Airlines customer service desk, or head to the ticket counter to see how they can help you. The key here is that you not only should be compensated because it was the airline's fault that you couldn't make your flight, but they can also rebook you on the next flight out (and sometimes upgrade your ticket class) but they call also give you a voucher or a refund for the flight that you were supposed to take.
If the flight has already left and you are no longer in the airport, then you will need to have this conversation over the phone with one of their customer service reps. The key part to remember is it's best to remain clam and clearly explain the situation so they can look into this and hopefully get you the compensation that you deserve. You again will need to let them know that you were bumped off of your overbooked flight and that you need a refund or some compensation.
If you want them to book you on a different flight as well, now is the time to tell them. If you are so fed up with the inconvenience that this has caused, let them know that you no longer wish to fly on their airline and that you want to get refunded so that you can fly on another airline altogether. Let us know how you make out!
