How Do I Exchange Items I Ordered from American Eagle?

This article discusses how to exchange items that you purchased at American Eagle for other items. A detailed set of instructions are included for making the exchange by mail, and also for going to the store to make the exchange in person. Limitations that exist because of American Eagle's return and exchange policies are described.

There are a number of different ways you can buy things from American Eagle but, no matter how you made your purchase, it is easy to exchange the items for other items. Just follow these instructions.

If You Bought the Items Online or by Phone

  1. Make sure you have the invoice the items were shipped with. If you don't have it, you will not be able to get a refund. Instead, you will be given a gift card for the purchase amount.
  2. Write a not about which items you are returning.
  3. Put the items back in the packaging they came in.
  4. Put the invoice and the note in the package.
  5. Go to American Eagle's home page.
  6. Click on the Account icon in the upper right corner.
  7. Click on the Sign In button and sign in to your account.
  8. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  9. Click on the Track Order link.
  10. Click on the Get a Return Label link.
  11. Print out the label.
  12. Attach it to the package.
  13. Mail the package.

Please note that shipping costs will not be refunded. You will only get back the purchase price. Also, you can only make an exchange if you purchased the items with a credit or debit card. If you used cash, PayPal, or a gift card, you cannot exchange the item.

Returning Items to the Store

If you purchased the items you want to exchange at a nearby store, it might be quicker and more convenient to go to the store and make the exchange in person. You will need to bring the invoice and the credit or debit card you used to make the purchase with you.
