There are numerous reasons why you may lose a job but whenever you lose one, you are liable to receive unemployment insurance benefits. If you live in Arizona, then you will have to apply for the benefits at the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

Eligibility

In order to qualify to receive unemployment insurance benefits form the Arizona Department of Economic Security, there are a few conditions to be met. You will not receive the benefits if you are not found to be eligible on a weekly basis.

All determinations regarding whether or not a person is eligible for benefits are made by the appropriate Arizona Revised Statute, Administrative Code or applicable federal laws.

The first eligibility requirement is that you should not have lost your job through your own fault. You will have to prove that you were fired through no fault of your own for example due to a plant shutdown or an economic downturn.

In Arizona, you must have worked for an employer who paid unemployment tax.

Another requirement is that you must have earned at least $7,000 for two quarters of your base period. Your wage statement (UB 107) will show how much you will receive in benefits each week if you meet the wage requirements.

You also have to report your vacation, holiday, sick or severance pay if it was rendered by a former employer. The payments have to be less than your weekly benefit amount for you to receive any compensation.

You also need to offer evidence to the Arizona Department of Economic Security that you have been actively looking for work. Without the proof, you will be considered ineligible for the next week's benefit payment.

The Arizona insurance benefits payment will vary from person to person. It is usually 4% of what you made in the highest quarter of your base period. The maximum payment amount, however, is $240 a week.

You must be willing and ready to accept any suitable work if it comes along. Turning down a valid offer will disqualify you from receiving any unemployment benefits.

If you are denied any benefits, you can appeal the decision by the Arizona Department of Economic Security. Your former employer may also prevent you from receiving unemployment benefits if they offer proof against your eligibility.
