Facebook is often synonymous with friendship, family, and fun. Unfortunately, with the ease of reaching and communicating with others, the ease of having your account and personal details fall onto the wrong hand increases. Not to worry, you can enhance your Facebook security settings to ensure you don't leak your private information, get hacked or lose control of your account. Below are things you can do to keep your Facebook account secure.

1. Make Your Facebook Profile Private

One of the ways to enhance your Facebook security settings is to make your Facebook profile private. You can now limit your posts to people you do not know. Making your profile information details private allow you to make yourself search safe. On your profile settings, you can switch the privacy settings to decide what information is public. You can also do this every time you want to post anything on your account. The settings allow you to choose the visibility of your post to friends, close friends or a smaller group subset. Under your name, drop the menu and select the option that best suits you.

2. Set Up Login Approvals

Allow Facebook to notify you if someone tries to log in to your account. This setting will request your permission to allow or deny the login attempt. You will have an option to reject the login request if you do not recognize the source. To set this up, on your account page, select "settings" and then "security" on the "account settings" then, you will see and option "Login Approvals On from your Facebook app." Click on it to get the setting sorted out.

3. Always Log out

Do not choose to allow a device to keep you logged in, especially if the device is shared. When you choose to remain logged in, you have exposed direct access to your account to whoever uses the device next. Remember to log out after a session or log yourself out remotely. This will help keep your account safe.

4. Improve Your Password

Many a time, you get asked to create a strong password, this only means you have to set a password that is hard to crack. Whenever possible, use a combination of letters, numbers and symbols to make a harder for another person to make a correct guess. While you are at it, make it as long as possible, but keep in mind you have to remember it. A little tip to keep in mind is to avoid using your year of birth or your name. That makes it too easy for someone trying to gain access to your account.

5. Protect Your Password

When you are done improving your Facebook password, protect it. Set up two-factor authentication for your account. On your Facebook account, select "settings" and then "Security and Logins" to edit the authentication method. Select the two-factor authentication method and follow the onscreen instructions. Click Finish once you are done. This allows you to protect your passwords from being stolen.

Furthermore, do not use your Facebook password on other sites and applications. Using a different password enables you to keep your accounts safe even after receiving access to a password to one of your websites or applications. If you use the same password for your websites and applications, you run the risk of losing control of your Facebook account. Last but not least, don't share your login details with anyone.
