How Do I Share My Screen on Google Meet?

Google Meet is a videocall service provided by the tech giant. It was created to replace Google Hangouts and Google chat.

Google Meet is predominantly used by business people and other professionals for one on one and conference video calls. You can host over 50 attendees in an online Google Meet meeting.

The Google Meet application is available in a desktop version and a mobile app. They are similar but have slight differences such as how to share your screen.

Therefore, in this article we will look at how to share your screen on both the mobile app and the desktop version.

Sharing Your Screen on Google Meet Desktop Version

Sharing your screen on Google Meet from the desktop is preferable to the mobile app because it affords you more presentation options. Moreover, the user interface is easier to use.

The manner in which you share your screen on Google Meet can depend on the browser you are using if you are using the Google Meet website.

You can share your entire screen, one tab or any app window on Google Meet if you are using Google Chrome. You can mirror your entire screen or a single window if you are browsing on Mozilla Firefox. You can only share your entire screen if you are using Safari browser on a Mac.

The process of sharing your screen on Google Meet via your desktop involves the following steps:

  1. When you are already on a Google Meet video call, click on ‘Present Now' located to the bottom right corner of the screen in the toolbar.
  2. Once you click it, you will be presented with the possible options in a pop-up menu. You can choose whether you want to share your entire screen, a specific window or tab depending on the browser that you are using.
  3. On the next screen, you will select the specific screen that you want to share. If you are using multiple monitors and want to share multiple screens, you will be able to see them at this point.
  4. If you want to share a particular window of an app, then you will have to choose ‘A window' option when you click ‘Present Now.' You will be presented with all the windows currently open on your desktop. The same goes for choosing a Chrome tab. You can choose whether to share audio from a tab or not using the ‘Share Audio' option
  5. Click ‘Share' after selecting the screen.
  6. Once Google Meet starts sharing your screen, you will be able to see it in the chat window. That is where it will be reflected in your meeting.
  7. A new presentation box will appear in the top toolbar. You can use the box to toggle between the presentation and participant views.
  8. If you are done sharing your screen, you will click ‘You are presenting' from the bottom toolbar and then click ‘Stop Presenting.' Your screen sharing will stop and you will revert to the previous view.

Sharing your Screen on the Mobile App

The process of sharing your screen through the Google Meet mobile app is as follows:

  1. When you are on an active Google Meet call, click on ‘Viewfinder' and the tree dot icon will appear in the top right corner.
  2. Tap on the three-dot icon.
  3. Tap on ‘Present Now.'
  4. A pop-up window will appear to confirm that you want to share your screen. Click ‘Yes.'
