IRS: What do I do if I forgot to include my payment with my return?

A simple 3 step guide for solving this common IRS problem quickly and effectively by GetHuman

Before you get started, be sure you have: Name on the account, Address, Last 4 digits of Social Security number
Hi, there are a couple of routes that you can take. First option is to just wait. If you haven't sent your payment, the IRS will mail you when they realize that your payment wasn't included with your return. Once you get the letter, you can send in the payment that you owe.
The other option that you have is to print out a copy of your return, and include the payment. Make sure to attach a cover sheet exlpaining the mistake, and that you have already filed the return and that the return you are sending them now is a duplicate, and that you would like them to take your missing payment for your return. Don't forget to include the check.
