Traveling with a Pet

JetBlue does allow you to travel with your pets, and by following the information below, you and your pet will be less stressed during travel.

Booking Your Pet

You can book your pet at the time you book your flight. Booking your pet requires you to do the following:

  1. Check carry-on requirements. Small dogs and cats must travel in a FAA approved carrier on JetBlue flights.
  2. You will have to pay a pet fee each way.
  3. There is a maximum of two pets per traveler allowed. Each pet must be in its own carrier that can fit under the seat in front of the pet owner. If you have a second pet, you will be required to purchase a second seat to have access to the storage space under the seat in front of you.
  4. JetBlue only allows a total of six pets per flight.
  5. Window or aisle seats are highly recommended.
  6. Make sure you are aware of the vaccination requirements for your destination in addition to point of departure.

Checking In at the Airport

When you arrive at the airport to board the plane, you must do the following:

  1. If your dog is more than 12 weeks old, you must show valid proof of rabies vaccination.
  2. Obtain your JetPaws bag tag from JetBlue's full-service counter and attach it to the pet carrier.
  3. Remove your pet from the carrier and walk with it or walk it through while the carrier is x-rayed.
  4. During take-off, the carrier must remain under the seat in front of you. Once your JetBlue flight is in the air, you can hold the pet carrier in your lap. Pets cannot be removed from carriers during the flight.

Traveling with a Service Animal

If you are traveling with a service animal, you need to know the following:

  1. All service animals must be under the control of the handler at all times, and cannot be in "training" status.
  2. Your service animal's behavior will be assessed at all times to make sure it is safe to travel.
  3. All required documentation identifying your service animal as such must be submitted 48 hours prior to your flight's departure. You can download the U.S. Department of Transportation Service Animal Air Transportation Form from the JetBlue website.
  4. Your service animal must fit within the foot area of your seat(s).
  5. Your service animal is not allowed to occupy a seat. You can hold it if it is small enough to sit on your lap without touching the person next to you or the tray or seatback.
  6. Know the requirements of your destination as well as departure.
