Macy's Return Policy

If you bought something from Macy's that you want to return, you have 90 days to return most items. You can send return items back by mail or in-store, for free. But, shipping and delivery charges are not refundable. Also, keep in mind that you must put all items back in the original packages with the tags and they must be in a saleable condition.

What You, Will, Need for a Refund

Proof of Purchase

You will need an original purchase receipt, the credit card you purchased the item with, or even a return shipping label or packing slip will work.

Gift Items

Purchases made with a gift receipt, a return label, or something with a bridal registry number, will get store credit.

Refunds Without Proof of Purchase

If you don't have your receipt, you will get store credit in the amount that is equal to the lowest sale price of an item with the last 180 days.

Store Credit

Macy's may issue your store credit by providing you with a Merchandise Certificate, which can buy things in-store only. They also may give you an EZ Exchange Card, which is basically the same as a Macy's gift card. With these gift cards, you can shop online or in a physical store.

How to Return Items

If you purchased something from Macy's online store, you could return it through the mail or by taking it to a physical Macy's store. But anything bought from a Macy's physical store, can only go back back to a Macy's physical store. Your purchase can be verified without a receipt as long as you have a return label, the credit card used to make the purchase, or a registry number.

How to Exchange Items

Keep in mind that if you bought something from Macy's online store, the only way to exchange it for another item is by getting a refund for the unwanted item and then buying the one you want. How Will Your Refund Be Issued?

It can take anywhere from 3 to 5 days for the returned item to get back to Macy's. Once the item you returned is received by Macy's, they will issue your refund. Your refund will go back to the credit card or other method you used to buy the item. This could take 3 to 5 business days, depending on when Macy's gets the item back. When the money is actually posted to your credit card or another payment method, will depend on your bank. It can take up to 10 days to post to your account.
