How Do I Port My Moto G to a New Phone?

Did you know that Motorola invented the first mobile phone? Motorola pioneered the mobile communications industry and has remained committed to satisfying customers' preferences, including their user experiences, quality, and style. The Motorola G family comprises various smartphones, having significant improvements in terms of features with each successive release to the market. Some of its versions include the Moto G2, G3, G4, and G5 up to the Moto G7 supra, as well as the Moto G fast, power, and stylus.

Advancements in technology have led to a dynamic change in the number of mobile phone models and operating systems available in the market, providing an array of options for consumers to choose from.

Upon buying a new phone, most consumers often find it laborious to transfer valuable data from their previous phones to the new mobile device. This may include photos, music, SIM contacts, call and text history, and volume and screen brightness settings. Not to worry, though. Here's how you can port your Moto G to a new phone.

How do I port my Moto G to a new phone?

Motorola provides a user-friendly mobile application, called Motorola Migrate, allowing consumers to switch data from their old phones to new ones. The Motorola Migrate app also accommodates data transfer between Motorola phones and other brands on iOS and Android operating systems.

You should note that the app does not function on devices operating on Android 6.0 or higher. You can port your Moto G to a new phone using Migrate as follows;

Android phone

  • From the Motorola official site or even Google Play, download and install Motorola Migrate on your Moto G and also the new phone that you want to transfer data to
  • Start the program and select ‘Android' as the output device.
  • Tap ‘Next' to access the transferrable files listed and mark those you wish to transfer to your new phone. Confirm that you've selected appropriate files and tap ‘Next' to proceed
  • Scan the QR code to connect the two devices and ensure that they are under the same Wi-Fi. Pairing and connection will proceed automatically.
  • Select the content you want to transfer and tap ‘Exit' if the transferring process completes. Your SIM contacts will be automatically imported if you are using Motorola Migrate app version 1.3 or higher.

iPhone

The process is similar to its Android counterpart; however, you can only transfer contacts and calendar.

Alternative method

You could also contact Motorola customer service via phone and seek assistance on how you can port your Moto G to a new phone. You can also engage with Motorola agents using the company's Live Chat and Help Desk platforms to obtain solutions to your concerns.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Motorola Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
