How Do I Check the Status of My Refund with the Ohio Department of Taxation?

If you're waiting for an Ohio state income tax refund, there are several ways you can check to see if it's been sent out. Read on to find out how you can track the status of your income tax refund with the Ohio Department of Taxation.

Call the Ohio Department of Taxation

If you would like to check the status of your Ohio tax refund, you can always call the Ohio Department of Taxation. You can get information about your income tax refund status over the phone during regular business hours.

Check Online

While one of the easiest ways to check the status of your state tax refund with the Ohio Department of Taxation is to call, you can also check online.

  • Go to the Check My Refund website operated by the Ohio Department of Taxation
  • Enter the requested info into the form fields, including your Social Security number and date of birth
  • Hit Submit

If your refund has been processed, it will take about three days for that information to appear online.

Use the Mobile App

The Ohio Department of Taxation provides a mobile app called "Ohio Taxes" that you can use to check the status of your state income tax refund.

  • Download the app from the Apple or Google Play store onto your mobile device
  • Open the app and select Check My Refund Status
  • Enter your Social Security number and date of birth
  • Select Income Tax as the tax type
  • Indicate if the return is an original or amended return
  • Click Submit

The department's Check My Refund webpage provides links and QR codes directly to the app in case you have trouble finding the official state app in the Apple of Google Play stores. Make sure you're using the state's official app and not entering your personal information into a third-party substitute.

Also, the mobil app only provides information on the current year's tax refund for a return filed for the previous year. If you're looking for information on a past year's refund, call the department directly.
