How do I get a refund for a Southwest Airlines flight that was cancelled?

A simple 3 step guide for solving this common Southwest Airlines problem quickly and effectively by GetHuman

Before you get started, be sure you have: Name on the ticket, Confirmation code, Booking reference, Flight number, When is the flight
1
If Southwest cancelled your flight, then you are in line for a refund or for some compensation. The best (and only) way to do this is by calling them directly. Make sure before you call that you have all of the relevant flight information including the date of the flight, the confirmation number, and the name of the passenger(s) on the flight.
2
Once you have all of that information, you can use this number to call Southwest.
3
Depending on the time of day, the hold times can be quite long. Once you get a rep on the line, make sure to explain to them that you were supposed to be a on flight, but for whatever reason Southwest cancelled the flight, and the new date and time they offered you doesn't work, and that you would like to be refunded for the flight. The agent will then look into the issue and will take care of the request for you. Let us know how it goes!
