SquareTrade is a company that offers consumer electronics and appliances users extended warranties. Consumer electronics that can receive an extended warranty include iPhones, TVs, Smartphones, Tablets, Laptops and Appliances.

The coverage from SquareTrade begins when you purchase your plan. The coverage for accidental damage begins on the purchase date whereas coverage for mechanical and electrical failures starts when the manufacturer's warranty ends.

Before you begin the process of filing a claim on SquareTrade, you need to have certain information ready so that you can receive the best and fastest service possible.

You require the item for which you're filing a claim near you so as to provide specific details about it when asked. You also need to write down certain elements of the item for which you are filing a claim including the item's serial or model number, IMEI or MEID number, model, carrier, memory, size and color among others.

The last thing you need is the item's receipt. You need to submit either a hard copy or soft copy copy of the receipt you received when purchasing the item. You can submit your receipt of the item through the following process:

  1. Launch your web browser and open squaretrade.com
  2. Log in to your account or set up an account if you do not have one
  3. Click on the name of the item with the warranty for which you want to submit a receipt
  4. Click 'Manage my receipt' in a box on the right of the next page
  5. Tap the blue 'Choose File' button on the next page
  6. Select the file format in which you want to upload the receipt i.e. JPG, JPEG, PNG or PDF. Take a picture of a physical receipt if you have one and upload it
  7. Click the 'Yes, Use This File' tab
  8. Click 'Submit now' to send the receipt.

You should back up the data in the item before filing your claim. If your item needs to be restored or replaced, failure to back up your data will lead to complete loss.

You also need to deactivate your 'Find my iPhone' app if you have an iPhone to successfully complete your claim. It ensures that your data remains safe while SquareTrade repairs or replaces your iPhone.

Filing a Claim

You can file a claim on SquareTrade through a straightforward step by step process. Your plan does not have to be registered for you to file a claim.

  1. Launch your web browser and open squaretrade.com
  2. Log in to your account or set up an account if you do not have one. Using the email address you used to buy your protection plan to set up an account is recommended
  3. Click the 'File a claim' tab in the top of the page and follow the instruction to file the claim
  4. Click 'Submit' when done to file the claim.

Claim Approval

There are several actions that can happen after you file a claim depending on the item, how the item was damaged and when you file the claim. The most ubiquitous include shipping your item in a secure box to a SquareTrade service center, receiving in-home repair from a technician, replacement of a broken item, reimbursement for a replacing or repairing the item, troubleshooting solutions may be offered online or over the phone and initiating of a repair with your local repair shop.

You can also file a claim by contacting SquareTrade customer service directly. SquareTrade has two ways through which their customer service can help you file a claim; phone and email.
