How do I dispute an Uber fare?

Disputing an Uber fair can be fairly straightforward and easy if you follow this guide. Here's how you can get your money back as quickly as possible from Uber.

If you would like to dispute your Uber fare, you can do so by following these simple steps:

Using the App

  1. Go into your Uber app.

  2. If you are not logged in already, you will be prompted to log in with your phone number and password, or with your Facebook account.

  3. In the top left corner of the app, there should be an icon with three straight lines. Tap this icon and select 'Your Trips' from the menu options.

  4. On the new screen, select 'Past' at the top of the screen to view your recent trips.

  5. Select the trip that you want to dispute. Make sure you are selecting the correct trip as many people take Ubers more than once a day.

  6. Select 'Help' and then 'I would like a refund.'

  7. You will be asked to select an issue. A drop-down menu of possible issues appears. Note that not all of these issues are applicable for a refund. Choose the option that is most relevant to your situation. If none of the options are applicable to your situation, select the option at the bottom of the list, "I have a different issue with my charge."

  8. The list will include:

    • My driver took a poor route.

    • Someone else took this trip.

    • I paid a toll or parking fee for my driver.

    • I was charged a cleaning fee.

    • I have an extra charge from this trip.

    • My pickup or drop-off location was wrong.

    • My driver made an unrequested stop.

    • My promo code didn't work.

    • My driver asked to be paid in cash.

    • I have a different issue with my charge.

  9. A popup menu will appear explaining if the issue you selected is applicable for a refund.

  10. Fill out the issue's form. You will likely have to include more details about the issue that occurred. For example, if you choose "I paid my driver cash" you will be asked more questions such as "What amount of the trip was paid for in cash?" and "Did your driver ask for a cash tip?" If you chose "My driver took a poor route" you will be shown a "Share Details" box, in which you must explain exactly what happened. The more details you give Uber, the faster the issue can be resolved.

  11. At the bottom of the page, select 'Submit.'

  12. Your claim can take from 24 hours to a week to be processed. You will receive a decision to the email you have registered to your Uber account. If you have been approved for a refund, it will be applied to the same debit or credit card the original charge was processed on.

Using the Uber Website

  1. Go to https://help.uber.com/.

  2. In the top right corner select 'Sign In.' You will be asked to sign in with your phone number and password, or your Facebook profile. Select 'I'm not a robot' if that step appears under your login information.

  3. On the far left of the screen, select 'For Riders' in the menu.

  4. Under 'Account and Payment Options' select the 'More' button.

  5. On the far left of the screen, select 'Trip Issues and Refunds' at the top of the menu.

  6. You will be redirected to your recent trips page. Select the trip that you had the issue on.

  7. Select 'I would like a refund.'

  8. Select the issue from the menu of options that is most applicable to your situation. If none of the listed issues are applicable, select 'I had a different issue with my charge.'

  9. Enter as many details as possible, and as prompted.

  10. Select 'Submit.'

  11. Your claim can take from 24 hours to a week to be processed. You will receive a decision to the email you have registered to your Uber account. If you have been approved for a refund, it will be applied to the same debit or credit card the original charge was processed on.
