Using Your Phone
If you have your phone nearby, the easiest way to recover your account is via text message. Just follow these instructions:
- Open the WeChat app.
- Click on the 'Login' button located at the bottom of the screen.
- Under ID Type, select "phone number."
- Select your country.
- Enter your phone number. You will be sent a text with a verification code.
- Try to log in again, but select the Login Via Verification Code rather than using your password.
- Enter the verification code.
- Complete the Captcha.
- Select Set Password.
- Enter a new password.
- Click on the Done button.
Reinstalling the App
If you are not able to reset your password, you can try reinstalling the app after you have wiped out all of the WeChat data on your mobile device. Follow these instructions:
- Close the WeChat app.
- Open the Application Manager on your mobile device.
- Select WeChat.
- Delete the data and cache files.
- Uninstall the WeChat app.
- Restart your mobile device.
- Reinstall the WeChat app. Now that all of the old data associated with it has been deleted, you can log into it using the password you set up on the new installation.
