Xbox offers a Live Gold subscription that gives users access to free and discounted games for a small monthly fee. However, users can easily cancel their subscription at any time by following a few simple steps.
Before You Cancel...
You must cancel your Xbox subscription online. You can't use your console. However, there are a few important things you should know before you proceed. You will not be able to cancel your Xbox Live Gold subscription if you have any unpaid balances. You must pay those balances first. You can either call Xbox and speak with a customer service representative or pay the balance of your subscription online. Unpaid balances usually result in a suspended subscription. However, this issue can be resolved easily. Login to your Microsoft Xbox account and select services and subscriptions. If you've forgotten your Microsoft account email address or password, you can conveniently use the Lost Account Solution or the Lost Password Solution. You will see a list of all your subscriptions. Locate your Xbox Live Gold subscription and you will see the unpaid balance highlighted in red. Select the pay now option. Instructions will appear on how to pay your balance.
The Cancellation Process
The actual cancellation process is fairly straight forward. Simply log in to your Microsoft Xbox account and navigate to the services and subscriptions page. Find your Xbox Live Gold subscription on the list, and select the payment and billing option. You should see this option under the subscription. Select Cancel. Onscreen instructions will appear and you will have the option to end recurring billing on your expiration date. You may also have the option to end the subscription immediately, depending on subscription status. Conversely, if recurring billing is turned off, you will see a message stating that your subscription has been paid in full through its expiration date. For a quick recap, follow these steps:
Other Cancellation Issues...
There are a few different issues you might experience while canceling your Xbox Live Gold subscription. If you've turned off recurring billing but still notice a charge for your Xbox Live Gold subscription, there may be a chance that your subscription was canceled after the pending billing date. This charge reflects the last charge before recurring billing was canceled. You shouldn't see the charge again after this final bill. Another important point to know is that although you pay for someone else's Xbox Live Gold account, you can't cancel it. The Gold account owner is the only person who can cancel his or her account.
Canceling an Xbox Live Gold account is not difficult. However, there are basic guidelines that you must follow in order to cancel your account. Once you've familiarized yourself with these guidelines, you can follow a few quick and easy steps to cancel your account.
